David Yellin Street was named after David Yellin, an Israeli educator who was born in Belarus in 1864. He is known as the founder of the modern Jewish school system in Palestine, and he was an advocate of Zionism and Hebrew literacy. He moved to Jerusalem in 1892, and opened up the first school for Jewish children in the city. His legacy of education and activism lives on in the street named in his honor.
