Jaffo is an ancient port city located in Tel Aviv, on the historic province of Judea. Records of the city date back to around 7500 BCE and it was an important trading harbor and port during the Roman period before it was destroyed during the First Crusade in 1187 CE. The modern city of Jaffo was founded by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1881 and quickly grew to be the main Jewish city in the region. Today it is a bustling tourist hub and contains many attractions including the Jaffa Port area, the old town quarters, the clock tower and various art galleries.
