The Mount of Olives is a hill east of Jerusalem's Old City, traditionally associated with the ascent of Jesus to heaven after his death. It is also known for its historic role as a burial place, with tombs that have been used since ancient times. The Mount is a sacred place in the three Abrahamic religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and the Viri Galiles site is located on it. The Mount is also mentioned several times throughout the Bible, such as in Zechariah 14:4. For centuries, Jews have visited the Mount to pray at the many small chapels there, and it is considered to be the holiest cemetery in Judaism. The view from the Mount is spectacular, and it remains an important site for tourists and pilgrims from all faiths.
