The Ramban, also known as Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, was a 13th century Spanish rabbi and Torah commentator. He is considered one of the greatest halakhic authorities of his time and was deeply involved in Kabbalah. He was born in an area of Spain that had been recently conquered by the Christians, and he practiced medicine. In his later years, due to conflicts with the Christians, he moved to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. He later moved to Acre, where he died. In several cities, it was decided not to name streets after the Ramban, as well as his father Nachman, due to the similarity in their names. Therefore, in Tel Aviv there are streets named after the Ramban, as well as Nachmani. In Jerusalem, however, the practice is reversed, with streets named after the Ramban's father, Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, and Ben Maimon.
