Tifferet Israel Street traces its origin back to the 18th century. It is said to have been named after the Eliyahu Cohen family of rabbis who lived in Jerusalem during that time. The street is located in the Jewish Quarter and is part of the pathways connecting the four quarters of the Old City. Five synagogues line the street, some of which are centuries old, making it an especially important religious center in the city.
