Zion Gate is part of the Old City of Jerusalem and was constructed in 1540 as part of the city's walls. It is the most southern gate of Jerusalem's wall and has been a key checkpoint for Christian pilgrims throughout history. Zion Gate was named for the nearby Zion Mount and was the gate through which many Jewish fugitives escaped during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. In recent years, the area has become a popular tourist destination and a symbol of hope.
